- How to Identify the Operation:
- ▶ Look at the numbers from top to bottom.
- ▶ If the numbers are getting bigger, it's a growing pattern (it means addition or multiplication).
- ▶ If the numbers are getting smaller, it's a decreasing pattern (it means subtraction or division).
- ▶ Figure out which number is added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided.
- ▶ If addition is used, subtract each number from the next one to find what is added.
- ▶ If subtraction is used, subtract the next number from the previous one to find what is subtracted.
- ▶ If multiplication is used, divide each number by the previous one to find what is multiplied.
